What makes 100% Silk Charmeuse sheets the most desired of all silk sheets? Silk Charmeuse is the most luxurious in appearance, deliciously soft and the most expensive. It is the most time consuming with the most steps to produce using highly sophisticated processes and intricate complex dense stitches. Habutai silk is made from unboiled mulberry raw silk in simple non-complex stitches. Habutai is nice but does not have the lustrous sheen of silk charmeuse and is not as soft to the touch. Habutai silk is often sand washed to help to make it a little softer. Silk Charmeuse is also called Crepe Back Silk Satin. Charmeuse has softly muted crepe on one side and a shimmery pearly satin finish on the other. It drapes beautifully. The shiny satin side shows off colors brightly. It is made from the finest unboiled long mulberry raw silk. What does 19 momme weight mean and why is it the most coveted weight? Momme is a Japenese weighting system for fine silk determining silk thickness content per square meter. 19 momme is the absolute best thickest weight. Less thick 16.5 momme weights and below are cheaper versions that are not as durable and could easily tear and rip. 19 momme silk filament is far stronger than cotton or wool yet is light and breathable. It is also very elastic and will stretch to 20% of its length without breaking ... which means it holds its shape well and does not wrinkle very much. With the soaring price of raw mulberry silk, many are producing these sheets with low insufficient momme weights and selling them as if they are the same as the 19 momme weight. Silk charmeuse has a much higher dollar value than habutai silk of the same momme weight. The sheets I am offering at auction are 19 momme weight 100% Silk Charmeuse (not habatoi or 12, 15 or 16.5 momme). It is also lower in density than cotton, wool or nylon and highly moisture absorbent – with the ability to absorb moisture without ever feeling damp. The subsequent evaporation of this moisture gives the silk its renowned breathable quality which enables it to keep the body at a constant temperature throughout the night. The Chinese have recognized for many centuries other benefits of silk including the soothing of itchy skin. Mulberry silk is not a suitable environment for house mites which thrive in other bedding materials and which are the cause of so many allergy problems. Treat youself to the ultimate in Luxury!!! ~ Sought After Everywhere - impossible to find ~ ~ previously reserved for the ultra-rich! ~ ~ Easy To Clean: Dry cleaning is recommeded however machine washing is ok. if machine washing please follow these instructions.... Machine wash only in the gentle cycle in cool or cold water with mild soap by itself. If you have a silk cycle on your washing machine this is great to use. There is special silk detergent available and it is recommended to use this – if not, please use very mild soap like Ultra Ivory Snow. I use Ultra Ivory snow on mine and it works great. Gentle Downy detergent is good too. Woolite is NOT recommeded. I can not take returns for improperly washed silk. Do not use bleach. Machine dry on a COOL setting for approximately ten minutes and remove immediately. When you remove, the sheets will be mostly dry but still a little damp. Hang over a chair, couch or outside to complete drying. If ironing, only iron on a cool setting. Most irons have a silk setting. Iron from the underside of the sheet - the crepe side. Remember - cool iron temperature only. Also, steaming is great if you have a steamer. They should be ironed when still a little damp so just before they are fully dried. These sheets are luxuriously soft, comfortable, & highly addictive!
